Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral ► Downtown Sketchers

On Monday, the 11th of September, the Downtown Sketchers gathered for a meetup at the iconic Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, affectionately known to locals as “Paddy’s Wigwam.” The day started with a bit of rain, but as luck would have it, the weather took a turn for the better, and the sun made a welcome appearance. While those clouds threatened more rain, they graciously held back, allowing us to fully enjoy our creative expedition.

Upon arriving at the cathedral, the group was presented with a wonderful dilemma – where to sketch? With the vast and awe-inspiring interior of the cathedral and the captivating exteriors both at our disposal, we were spoiled for choice. Some of us decided to venture inside to capture the intricate details of the cathedral’s architecture, while others preferred to work in the open air, embracing the magnificent facade and surroundings. A few adventurous sketchers even embarked on the challenge of capturing both the interior and exterior scenes.

As the morning progressed, each sketcher was immersed in their creative process, bringing the grandeur of the cathedral to life on their paper. The sheer scale and design of the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral provided endless inspiration, and we reveled in the opportunity to translate its beauty onto our sketchbooks.

After a productive and artistic morning, we reconvened for a delightful sketch “throwdown” at a nearby café called Land Coffee, nestled inside the Liverpool Science Park. It was the perfect place to share our sketches, exchange techniques, and appreciate the unique perspectives each artist had captured. The camaraderie among the group added an extra layer of enjoyment to our creative journey.

As the sketchbooks closed and conversations continued, we left Paddy’s Wigwam with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment, knowing that we had collectively captured the essence of this iconic landmark. The sun had smiled upon our artistic endeavor, and the memories of this sketching expedition at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral would be cherished as a testament to our shared passion for urban sketching. We eagerly anticipated our next rendezvous, ready to explore new locations and continue our artistic adventures together.
