On Monday, the 8th of October, the Downtown Sketchers gathered once again, this time at the magnificent Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. This marked our second visit to this iconic location, and as seasoned sketchers, we were well aware that the awe and challenge presented by this architectural masterpiece never diminishes.
The Anglican Cathedral, a true gem of Liverpool’s rich history, stands as a testament to the city’s grandeur. It was designed by renowned architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, whose vision brought this grand edifice to life. Construction began in 1904 and continued for over seven decades, with the final stone laid in 1978. This remarkable timeline of creation adds a layer of historical depth to our sketching experience.
As we set up and laid out our artistic tools – pencils, pens, and brushes – we couldn’t help but feel a profound connection to the countless artists who had been drawn to this location over the years.
