Liverpool Monday Urban Sketching

Hardware Coffee + Kitchen

On the 8th of January 2024, the Downtown Sketchers kicked off the year with a burst of creativity, gathering at Hardware Coffee + Kitchen on Renshaw, once the famed Rapid Hardware spot. A fresh face, Mike, from John and Ron’s Monday afternoon art class, joined our urban sketching.

Perched at a top-notch spec in the back, we gazed over the architectural tapestry of the tardy buildings behind Bold Street, capturing the essence of the moment with our sketches. Inside, we were enveloped in warmth, sipping on delightful coffee to combat the bitter chills from our journeys.

With just over an hour dedicated to sketching, the tools were eventually downed, giving way to a spirited “throw-down.” The display of diverse works was a testament to the unique perspectives each sketcher brought to the table. In a delightful twist, I inadvertently became a life model – a first for me. Post-sketching, some of us indulged in the delectable offerings at Hardware, discovering that their culinary prowess matched their stellar coffee.

The artistic journey continued as we roamed Liverpool, scouting venues for upcoming Mondays. Exciting additions to our list include the grand and historic Town Hall and Paper Cup Coffee, a venture by the Paper Cup Charity.

For those eager to embark on urban sketching adventures, the invitation is open. Reach out and join us in capturing the soul of Liverpool through art. Let’s make Mondays a canvas of creativity together!
