Today’s meetup, 8th of April 2024, found us nestled within the welcoming confines of The Arts Bar on Hope Street, transforming a potentially grey afternoon into a vibrant session of urban sketching in Liverpool.

Established in the 1990s, The Arts Bar has become a cornerstone of Liverpool’s cultural scene – originally a Masonic Hall. Stepping inside, we were greeted by the warm atmosphere of a traditional venue pub, complete with exposed brickwork and a welcoming ambiance. With steaming cups of coffee at hand and the gentle hum of conversation filling the air, our sketchers turned their talents inward, capturing the unique charm of the bar’s interior.

From Cozy Corners to Cityscapes: Capturing the Essence of Hope Street

Some artists meticulously rendered the intricate details of the bar’s décor, from the exposed brickwork to the eclectic artwork adorning the walls. Others, perhaps yearning for a glimpse of the vibrant street life, turned their gaze towards the large windows. Their focus? The iconic silhouette of The White Hart pub across Hope Street. Recently transformed from a Mexican restaurant, The White Hart boasts a fascinating history, having once served as The Keystone pub. Its rain-slicked façade, now adorned with a striking white stag, glistened in the drizzle, offering a compelling subject for our urban sketchers. One brave urban sketcher ventured outdoors on this damp day.
