Liverpool Monday Urban Sketching

The Florist

On a picturesque Monday, the 23rd of October, a vibrant group of ten sketching enthusiasts gathered at The Florist, perched atop Hardman Street. This location, rich in history, added an extra layer of intrigue to our sketching adventure. In the 1980s, it was the Trade Union and Unemployed Centre, but over the years, it had remained dormant and silent. It was indeed a heartening sight to witness this space brought back to life, buzzing with creativity.

Our group was warmly received, and the hospitality we encountered was exceptional. We were graciously given free rein to explore the entire building, each corner brimming with potential sketching subjects. The freedom to sketch in such a unique and historic setting was a gift to our artistic souls. The coffee, a trusty companion of any artist, flowed generously, adding an extra layer of warmth to the day.

For those who might not be familiar with our routine, we make it a point to meet in a different location within Liverpool every week. The spontaneity of discovering new venues and exploring their artistic potential is part of what makes our sketching group so exhilarating. After we’ve savored the beverages and absorbed the ambiance, we embark on our individual sketching journeys, each artist selecting their muse.

We sketch for an hour, then comes the exciting part – we regroup, comparing our sketches and sharing the unique stories behind each one. This ‘throw-down’ as we call it, is a celebration of diversity, where artists showcase their interpretations of the same surroundings, highlighting the beauty of individual creativity.

Now, we want to extend an invitation to fellow art enthusiasts. If you have a passion for sketching, a love for exploration, and an appreciation for the rich history and hidden gems of Liverpool, we’d be thrilled to have you join us. Every week, we embark on a new adventure, and we believe that art is best enjoyed when it’s shared. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, you’ll find a welcoming community eager to share their love for sketching and creativity.

So, if you’re in Liverpool or planning to visit, mark your calendar for our urban sketching Monday sessions, and immerse yourself in the unique blend of history, camaraderie, and artistic expression that defines our group. We can’t wait to have you with us on the next artistic journey.
