Liverpool Monday Urban Sketching

MerseyMade @ Paradise Street

On the 6th of November ’23, the Downtown Sketchers urban sketching group gathered at the delightful MerseyMade on Paradise Street in Liverpool, transforming it into an art-filled haven. The turnout was fantastic, with 11 enthusiasts joining the urban sketching extravaganza.

MerseyMade, a bubbling cauldron of creativity, has been proudly showcasing the masterpieces of over 150 local independent artists and makers since its establishment in 2019 by the visionary Vicky Gawith. Step inside, and you’ll find more than just a shop; it’s a lively community space with a cozy café and a buzzing event area, welcoming everyone seven days a week. The commitment to local talent is unwavering, ensuring that every creator featured resides within fifty miles of the Liverpool (L1) postcode. The community spirit thrives on inclusivity, celebrating individuality, making MerseyMade feel like your creative home away from home. Whether you’re an artist, maker, coffee aficionado, or a newcomer, there’s a spot for you in this vibrant family. Your purchases here are more than transactions; they’re contributions to the local bakers, crafters, painters, and beyond. Beyond commerce, MerseyMade’s mission extends to inspiring creativity through diverse workshops and events, acknowledging art’s pivotal role in promoting good mental health. As MerseyMade expands, the future sparkles with exciting possibilities for the talented artists enriching this creative sanctuary.

Now, back to our urban sketching adventure – MerseyMade rolled out the welcome mat, offering us a sneak peek behind the scenes, revealing their dedication to supporting local arts and artists, a melody to any urban sketcher’s ears.

The autumn weather, a touch chilly with a hint of rain, couldn’t dampen our spirits. Fortunately, we dodged the raindrops and found both indoor and outdoor spots to unleash our sketching magic. Fueled by coffee, our creative energies flowed as we explored our chosen corners.

After a little over an hour, the urban sketchers reconvened, settling around a couple of tables upstairs for a “throw-down.” Sketches were compared, and a lively exchange of tips and ideas unfolded, blending seamlessly with art-infused conversations and life stories. The gathering reached a delightful crescendo when Chris surprised us with delectable homemade biscuits – a sweet treat to cap off a fantastic urban sketching experience.

The sketchpads and pencils will be out again next week, and we extend an open invitation for you to join the Downtowners in some festive urban sketching fun. Until then, happy sketching, and see you soon!
