Downtown SketchersA weekly Monday urban sketch meet up with Downtown Sketchers in Liverpool
On Monday 17 August 2026 we met at the Museum of Liverpool and sketched around the waterfront. The visiting Nao Santa María provided a subject for studies of rigging, timber, reflections and the ship’s bow, alongside drawings of nearby dock buildings.
On Monday 10 August 2026 we met at Zaad and sketched around Wolstenholme Square, Liverpool. Jorge Pardo’s Penelope sculpture appears in pencil, ink and watercolour, its looping stems and coloured spheres rising above the trees. Other sketches look towards nearby shopfronts and streets.
On Thursday 6 August 2026, a day trip to Coffee Carriage at Maghull Station brought platforms, canopies and the footbridge into our sketchbooks. The drawings range from light pencil studies to watercolour views along the tracks, with a sunflower and cafe details among the smaller subjects.
On Monday 3 August 2026 we met at The Pumphouse beside Canning Dock, Liverpool. Sketchbooks range from the tall brick chimney and dockside buildings to boats, a gull and the steam bus. The collection includes drawings in progress and the group throwdown.
We met at Liverpool Cathedral on Monday 27 July 2026. Some of us drew the arches, sculpture and light inside, while others headed into St James Gardens for trees, monuments and views back towards the cathedral.
On Monday 20 July 2026 we met at Cafe Lucaya before heading to the garden of Liverpool Parish Church. The sketches take in the church, surrounding buildings, benches and memorials, with greenery framing the city views.
On Monday 13 July 2026 we met at the Aldham Robarts Pavilion cafe off Maryland Street, Liverpool. We sketched from the shade of the trees, studying the library, neighbouring buildings and the garden around us.
On Monday 6 July 2026 we met at Oasis in the Park cafe and sketched around Sefton Park, Liverpool. The Palm House, bandstand, statues and shaded paths gave us plenty of subjects before the group’s exhibition setup on Lark Lane.
On Monday 29 June 2026 we met at Chapters cafe in the Sydney Jones Library and drew around Abercromby Square, Liverpool. Garden paths, trees, the small garden house and surrounding architecture appear across the sketchbooks.
On Monday 22 June 2026, we met at Relish in the Royal Liver Building. Views of the waterfront and surrounding streets sit alongside trees, cafe interiors and portrait studies in this collection of Liverpool urban sketches.
