A weekly Monday urban sketch meet up with Downtown Sketchers in Liverpool
On Monday 20 April 2026, we visited Ryde Bicycle Cafe in its new home on St James Street. Sketchbooks filled with bicycles, the cafe interior, surrounding buildings and trees, alongside photographs of the materials used outdoors.
On Monday 13 April 2026, we sketched at Arts Bar on Hope Street, inside the old Masonic Hall. Doorways, mirrors, furnishings and people sharing the room appear beside street views and photographs of hands drawing and painting.
On Monday 6 April 2026, our Bank Holiday Monday meetup was at Granby Winter Garden on Cairns Street. We drew the plants, light-filled interior and house frontages, recording leaves, branches, doors and the structure of this unusual indoor garden.
On Monday 30 March 2026, we met upstairs at The Bookbinder on Lark Lane for our Monday sketching session. Plants, furniture, people and views along the street filled the sketchbooks. Afterwards we went along Lark Lane to set up the Downtown Sketchers exhibition at The Amorous Cat gallery; the group photograph records that exhibition setup, rather than the sketching venue.
On Monday 23 March 2026, we visited Bridewell Studios on Prescot Street, toured the former police station and sketched in its yard. Gateways, brickwork, windows and the studio building appear in the drawings, with photographs of sketchbooks in progress and the final throwdown.
On Monday 16 March 2026, we sketched upstairs at Yates in Queen Square. Windows offered views of surrounding buildings and buses, while cups, plants and people provided subjects at the tables.
On Monday 9 March 2026, we met in the Grand Lounge at the Adelphi Hotel. Mirrors, chandeliers, figures and decorative details kept many of us indoors, while others drew the streets and buildings beyond the hotel.
On Monday 2 March 2026, we tried the upstairs space at Deco Lounge on Bold Street, formerly Leaf. The colourful interior, lamps and nearby St Luke’s Church offered plenty to draw, along with shopfronts and people passing through the street.
On Monday 23 February 2026, we met at Exchange Station on Tithebarn Street. The former railway frontage, nearby streets, interior windows and plants supplied subjects for ink drawings and watercolours, with photographs of sketchbooks in progress and the final throwdown.
On Monday 16 February 2026, we sketched at Lush on Church Street, drawing displays, plants, bottles and the architecture inside and around the shop. Pencil studies sit beside colourful watercolours and the group’s collection of sketchbooks.
