A weekly Monday urban sketch meet up with Downtown Sketchers in Liverpool
On Monday 22 September 2025, we sketched at Red Brick Market on Stanhope Street. Market interiors, hanging plants and the surrounding brewery buildings offered a mix of small details and architectural subjects.
On Monday 15 September 2025, we met at Arts Bar on Hope Street. Plants, mirrors, people and furniture appear beside street views and nearby buildings in pencil, ink and watercolour.
On Monday 8 September 2025, we sketched at the Palm House in Sefton Park. The glasshouse, its entrances and plants filled the sketchbooks before the throwdown. One additional interior painting in this collection records the Amorous Cat exhibition, rather than the Palm House.
On Monday 1 September 2025, we met at the Bookbinder on Lark Lane. Shelves, lights, plants, people and street corners became subjects for our drawings and watercolours. The collection also records the Downtown Sketchers exhibition at the nearby Amorous Cat gallery.
On Monday 25 August 2025, we sketched in the Bluecoat courtyard and garden on School Lane. Doorways, decorative brickwork, plants and people provided subjects, with photographs showing work taking shape before the throwdown.
On Monday 18 August 2025, we met at the Quarter on Falkner Street. Some sketched the cafe and nearby streets; others drew the suitcase sculpture, trees and buildings around Hope Street, before bringing the work together for a throwdown.
On Thursday 14 August 2025, our Chester day trip took us to Hickory’s on the River Dee. The curves of the bandstand roof and the arches of the bridge turn up across the sketchbooks.
On Monday 11 August 2025, we met at Lucaya and sketched in the parish church garden. Some pages follow the tower from ground to spire. Others pick out a single arched doorway or a patch of planting.
On Monday 4 August 2025, we sketched at Artefact on Roscoe Street. Some pages look across the tables at other sketchers. Others follow the shelves, clocks, framed pictures and vintage furniture, or look outside towards St Luke’s. We spread the sketchbooks out together for the throwdown.
On Monday 28 July 2025, we met at Chapters Café in the Sydney Jones Library and took our sketchbooks outside into Abercromby Square. Some of us drew the garden pavilion among the trees. Others picked out the Georgian windows or the two openings in Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture.
